Listen Together
Play the Super Simple Slime episode (8 min). Kids almost always want to start making slime immediately afterward.
Make Batch 1 (Standard)
Follow the Slime Recipe Card exactly. Make the standard batch and rate it on the Texture Rating Sheet.
Engineer Batches 2 and 3
Make one batch with MORE saline (double) and one with LESS (half). Rate each one. What changed?
Connect to Real Polymers
Look around the house: rubber bands, plastic bottles, shampoo โ all polymers. Even your child's hair and fingernails are polymer chains.
MULTI-AGE TIP
Ages 5-7: Make one batch with adult help. Focus on the texture feel. Ages 8-11: Make all 3 batches and rate them. Introduce polymer and crosslink. Ages 12-14: Discuss PVA (polyvinyl acetate) and borate ions. Challenge them to find their ideal crosslink ratio and write up a scientific justification.

Big Idea
PVA glue is made of long polymer chains โ like microscopic spaghetti. When saline is added, borate ions link those chains together sideways (crosslinking). More crosslinks = stiffer slime. Fewer crosslinks = runnier slime. You're controlling chemistry with your measurements.
Following a precise recipe, testing a single variable (saline amount) across multiple batches, rating and comparing results, forming a justified preference, and explaining how crosslinking changes a material's properties.
