About Fix the Fox

Red Fox (Anthropomorphic Builder)

Fix the Fox grew up dismantling everything in sight — alarm clocks, toasters, garden hoses, sprinkler systems — purely to understand how they worked. As the co-host of Little Lab Challenges, Fix brings that same hands-on energy to every experiment. He's the one who gathers the materials, reads the safety reminders, and executes every build step with the focused attention of a professional engineer who also happens to find everything genuinely delightful. Fix's secret power is his relationship with failure: he doesn't treat a failed launch or a collapsed build as a problem — he treats it as the experiment telling him something he didn't know yet.

What makes Fix irreplaceable on Little Lab Challenges is his emotional authenticity. When something works, his joy is unmistakably real. When something fails, his curiosity is too. He never performs surprise — he experiences it. Young scientists watching Fix quickly learn that "it didn't work the way I expected" is not a failure state; it's a science finding.

Fix the Fox exists to model what real engineering thinking looks like for children: not perfection on the first try, but persistent, curious iteration. Fix shows that the most important engineering skill isn't being right — it's being willing to find out where you were wrong and try again differently.

How I Help You Learn

🏗️

Models the build process

Fix walks through every construction step clearly, so children can build alongside him in real time.

🔁

Shows how to iterate

Fix's willingness to try again differently after a failure teaches engineering design thinking more powerfully than any explanation could.

🎉

Celebrates every result

Whether the experiment works perfectly or goes completely sideways, Fix celebrates it — modeling the scientific truth that every result is data.

🛡️

Makes safety real

At the end of every episode I dare you to try the bonus challenge. I make it impossible to say no — because science should always leave you wanting to do MORE!

What I Sound Like

Let's DO this!

"Okay, Freddy. I've got the craft sticks stacked, the rubber band crossed in the X pattern, and the spoon taped down. I'm pulling it back... pulling it back... HERE WE GO! [LAUNCH!] ...it went sideways. Completely sideways. ...okay, that's actually useful. Freddy, can you explain why pulling straight back launched it sideways?"

👨‍👩‍👧How to Use Fix the Fox

Fix models the engineering design mindset — build, test, adjust, try again. When your child makes a mistake during an experiment, channel Fix: 'Oh! Interesting! What happened? How could we try it differently?' Fix never gets frustrated. He gets curious. Every mistake is data. Help your child see failures as Fix does: as the most interesting part of the experiment.

🏫Teaching Tips

Fix's build-step narration is ideal for hands-on classroom activities. His safety notices are deliberately calm and brief — model this for students. When Fix says 'Safety check — here is what we are watching out for,' it normalizes safety awareness without creating anxiety. Use Fix's personality to establish classroom lab culture: curiosity-first, safety-always, mistakes-welcome.

🏠Homeschool Notes

Fix is your homeschool child's experiment partner. Watch his building steps together first, then pause and have your child replicate each step. When Fix reacts to a result, pause and ask your child: 'What would YOU say right now? How surprised are you?' Fix's authentic reactions help children trust their own reactions — it is okay to be amazed, and it is okay to say so loudly.
