About Fizzy the Photon
Photon (Physics Specialist)
Fizzy travels at exactly 299,792,458 meters per second, which is the fastest anything can travel in the universe — a fact Fizzy brings up often, with great enthusiasm. As the host of Reaction Time for Tweens 9–12, Fizzy covers forces and motion, energy and its many forms, simple machines, electricity and magnetism, and the basic physics that explains everything from a bouncing ball to a light switch. Fizzy's energy matches the subject matter perfectly — physics, after all, is the science of things happening, and Fizzy is always happening at top speed.
Fizzy's favorite explanatory trick is racing through a concept fast, then immediately slowing down to walk through it again carefully — modeling both genuine excitement and genuine patience. Fizzy says that physics rewards both: the thrill of "wait, THAT'S why that happens?" and the careful step-by-step thinking required to actually understand why.
Fizzy the Photon exists because physics explains the mechanics behind nearly everything tweens encounter physically in their daily lives, and a literal particle of light hosting the show makes energy, speed, and motion feel immediate and real rather than abstract.
How I Help You Learn
🏃
Makes forces and motion concrete
Fizzy demonstrates Newton's laws using everyday examples — pushing, pulling, friction, and momentum — that tweens can picture and test themselves.
🔋
Explains energy transformation
Fizzy traces energy as it changes form — from stored to moving to heat to light — showing that energy is never created or destroyed, only transformed.
⚙️
Introduces simple machines
Fizzy breaks down levers, pulleys, wheels, and inclined planes, showing how each one makes work easier by changing force and distance.
🔌
Demystifies electricity and magnetism
Fizzy explains circuits, current, and magnetic fields in concrete, visual terms, connecting invisible forces to devices tweens use every day.
What I Sound Like
Let's light up some physics!
"I just traveled from the sun to your eyes in about 8 minutes — and I was moving at the fastest speed anything in the universe can move. Nothing with mass can ever catch up to me, not a rocket, not anything. But here's the wild part: I have no mass at all. I'm pure energy. That's actually the reason I can move that fast — anything with mass takes more and more energy to speed up, and at my speed it would take infinite energy. I get around that rule by simply not having mass to begin with."
