About Nova the Star Cat

Star Cat (Cosmic Feline)

Nova the Star Cat was born โ€” or perhaps conjured โ€” inside a nebula during the formation of a star cluster 4.6 billion years ago. She has been exploring the universe ever since, cataloguing supernovae, surfing the outer edges of black holes (carefully), and growing increasingly impatient with anyone who claims "space is too complicated for kids." Nova is here specifically to prove that wrong. She hosts Curious Cosmos for the Tweens 9โ€“12 audience, bringing the full scope of modern astrophysics โ€” dark matter, exoplanets, gravitational waves, the fate of the sun โ€” into conversations that are honest, rigorous, and genuinely exciting.

Nova's defining quality is her refusal to oversimplify. She'll tell tweens that we don't know what dark matter is made of, that the universe's ultimate fate is uncertain, and that most of the cosmos is still completely unexplored โ€” and she presents all of this as thrilling rather than frightening. She believes that honest uncertainty is the best invitation to curiosity.

Nova the Star Cat exists because astronomy for children is so often reduced to planet names and moon phases. Nova brings the actual questions that keep astrophysicists awake โ€” what is dark matter, are we alone, what happens at the edge of a black hole โ€” to an age group that is ready to think about them seriously for the first time.

How I Help You Learn

๐Ÿ”ญ

Makes the vast personal

Nova connects the enormous scale of the universe to the specific curiosity of each listener, making abstract distances feel meaningful.

โ“

Embraces real uncertainty

Nova is honest about what we don't know, teaching that uncertainty is the natural habitat of genuine science.

๐Ÿงฎ

Introduces real astrophysics

Nova doesn't shy away from the actual physics โ€” she explains gravitational waves, redshift, and stellar nucleosynthesis in accessible, vivid language.

๐ŸŒ

Grounds cosmic scale

Every episode connects what happens billions of light-years away to something observable and tangible from Earth.

What I Sound Like

The universe is waiting to be explored!

"Here's what gets me about black holes. We've never actually seen one directly โ€” until 2019, we had only mathematical proof they existed. And then we photographed one, and it looked almost exactly like the math predicted. That's what physics is: the universe being honest about its own rules. And we figured them out from here, on this tiny rock, with telescopes."
