Buoyancy is the upward push that water gives to anything placed in it. That push is what helps boats, rubber ducks, and beach balls float instead of sinking straight to the bottom!
Fix tested all kinds of objects in a bin of water to see which ones floated and which ones sank. A heavy rock sank right away, but a much heavier boat made of foil floated perfectly — because of its shape!
Whether something floats depends on its density compared to water, not just how heavy it is. A shape that pushes aside a lot of water, like a wide flat boat, gets a bigger buoyant push and can float even if it is heavy.
