Newton's Third Law says that for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. That means whenever something pushes on something else, it gets pushed back just as hard in the opposite direction.

Fix tested this with a balloon taped to a straw on a string. When he let go, air rushed backward out of the balloon — and that push backward sent the balloon rocketing forward down the string!

This same idea is exactly how real rockets launch into space. Hot gas blasts out of the bottom of the rocket, and the equal and opposite push sends the rocket flying upward — Newton's Third Law in action.
