A vibration is a fast back-and-forth movement. Almost every sound you have ever heard started as something vibrating, whether it was a guitar string, a drum, or even your own vocal cords when you talk.

Fix stretched rubber bands across a box and plucked them to build a simple rubber band guitar. Every time he plucked a band, it vibrated back and forth super fast — and that vibration is exactly what made the sound.

You can sometimes feel vibrations as well as hear them. Try putting your hand gently on a speaker playing loud music or on your own throat while you hum — you will feel the fast back-and-forth shaking happening!
